Words are our most inexhaustible forms of magic.
First and foremost, we are in the classroom together to learn, and grow. It’s okay to make mistakes; that’s how we improve. Remember, the expert in anything was once a learner, just like you! Together, we will be successful, if we focus on a foundation of mutual respect--respect for self and respect for others. With your cooperation, we will be learning a lot this year and having some fun along the way!

The goal of the MCL ELA course is to create a culture of readers, writers, and confident communicators.
Writing
Learners will discover they have a unique story to tell, and will discover their voice to tell it. We will begin the year with Narrative study, followed by Informative essays/speeches, Argumentative, and Multi-Genre. Students will explore Poetry and verse, illustration, and digital storytelling. They will practice honing their craft through brainstorming, quick writes, and revision.
Unit Study
We will read a variety of literature and expose learners to fiction, nonfiction, short stories, poems, podcasts, video, and more throughout the year while practicing and improving reading skills such as inference, determining author’s purpose, determining theme and central idea. Learners will also be able to provide evidence from the text to support analysis.
